CarMoses has uncovered a new trademark for the name Mayon filed by Bentley with the European Intellectual Property Office on February 21, marking what appears to be a first-time registration for the name. Alongside it, the luxury automaker also refiled a trademark for Barnato, a name previously trademarked at least once before. Both filings could be significant for the British brand, especially with a new model expected to debut from Crewe in 2026.

Bentley’s Latest Trademarks Hint at Power and Heritage
The name Mayon appears to be something entirely new for Bentley. While it could reference the Hindu god, it’s more likely inspired by the active Mayon Volcano in the Philippines, following the precedent set by the Bentayga SUV, which was named after Roque Bentayga, a rock formation within a volcanic caldera. Either way, this name seems to symbolize power.
Meanwhile, Barnato seems to pay tribute to Woolf Barnato, one of the legendary Bentley Boys who helped establish the brand’s racing dominance in the 1920s.
Smaller Than Bentayga, But Just as Luxurious
At the end of November last year, Bentley announced that it would launch its first EV in 2026, as that is when the automaker predicts the appetite for electric vehicles to grow. Bentley has confirmed that this will be a smaller-than-Bentayga vehicle that is more agile but no less luxurious. Specifics have been scarce, but Bentley promises surprising performance and technological innovations that “no one else is doing right now.”

If the name Barnato is chosen, it would be a nice nod to the past, and sharing an initial letter with the other SUV in Bentley’s range would make it easier to identify. On the other hand, the name Mayon seems like a perfect fit for a small, agile SUV with loads of instant electric performance.
We’ll just have to be patient, but if the 2026 timeline is adhered to, we won’t have to wait long before a name and other details are confirmed.
